Corporate Leadership Development

Leadership, motivation and team building courses with a difference!

The links between sport and leadership/teamwork are well established. The famous quote attributed to the Duke of Wellington that ‘the battle of Waterloo was won on the playing field of Eton’ is a reference to the developmental power of teamwork through games and sport rather than public schools and warfare!

To the casual observer, cycling is an individual sport, ‘you push the pedals around, nobody is helping you do it are they? Nothing could be further from the truth. Ever wondered why you see cyclists in a bunch on the road or four guys following each other around a track so closely a sheet of paper couldn’t separate them? It’s because tucking in behind another cyclist makes it 30% easier to keep the same pace – the guy at the front is ‘taking one for the team’ but he can’t do it all, he’d be exhausted in a few minutes, so somebody else has to take over while he takes a breather behind one of his team mates.

This makes group cycling, either on a track or a traffic free circuit, a fantastic environment to embed leadership and teamwork principles by way of practical demonstrations supplemented by video and interactive classroom based workshops.

We can have groups of participants quickly riding in teams and learning the challenges of communicating clearly under pressure whilst close formation riding embeds trust and listening skills. Competition between groups demonstrates goal setting and target achievement and can identify natural leaders, those with empathy and inspirational characteristics. It can demonstrate the need to keep the whole team on board including those less strong members and how to value their contribution. Participants will be challenged on various team selection criteria and, critically, to assess risk.

This is not a run of the mill leadership course. Raft and bridge building has been done to death. It will take your team out of their day-to-day environment and give them a memorable and enjoyable day with some refreshing ideas on how team function, how they can be best lead and what true leadership really means.

The team delivering the programme have an unparalleled insight into what really works in a business environment combining a range of experience in the corporate world including senior positions in HSBC, Barclays, Pro Media, and Goodrich engineering coupled with sporting success at national and international level. British Cycling qualified coaches deliver the cycling programme.

We can put together tailored single or multiple day programmes together for between 4 and 20 candidates and promise a thoroughly rewarding and unforgettable day.
