The history of Bridgnorth CC actually goes back a long way – to the turn of the century in fact - the ancient badges of office are on display at the town museum in the Northgate. The more modern incarnation of BCC started a couple of years back in June 2009 with a mountain bike ride on a Tuesday evening. I went along to that one along with Barry and Andrew Davies, a B.C coach who has worked really hard to get the club off the ground. We even got our picture in the Bridgnorth Journal!
BCC are expanding. There is a thriving mountain bike section who, having lost the light for Tuesday evening rides, are now organising rides for the weekend – some local and others ‘away days’ to the great trails we have in a 30 minute drive from the town.
The road section are building up their club runs and start from Oldbury Wells school at 9.30 on Sunday mornings. They aim to do 50 miles (ish) at 16mph (ish) although the club ethos is to ride at the pace of the slowest rider – nobody gets left behind or abandoned and everybody gets back in time for lunch! I’m going to get along to rides when I can with Charlie, my son – we both need a decent winter.
They are talking about developing a website – at the moment BCC are represented on Facebook. Go and have a look.
Mamil Cycling are right behind these guys, if you’re in the patch, go and meet up with them and we might see you there.
